Short version: we collect nothing. Learn Nihongo has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party tracking, and we operate no server of our own — your study data never reaches us. The single exception is Apple’s Game Center: if you use it, your leaderboard score and achievements are shared with Apple, not with us. See below.
None. Learn Nihongo does not collect, store on a server, transmit to us, or share any personal information. We run no backend, so there is nowhere for your information to go.
Your progress — scores, streaks, settings, and which questions you’ve seen — is saved in your device’s local storage, and, if iCloud is turned on for this app, also backed up to your own iCloud account so it follows you between your devices (see iCloud, below). Either way it stays on your device or inside your own Apple account — we operate no server and cannot see any of it. If you delete the app, the copy on that device is removed with it; an iCloud copy, if you have one, follows your iCloud settings as described below.
Learn Nihongo uses Apple’s Game Center to offer optional leaderboards and achievements. When Game Center is enabled on your device, the app submits your experience-point (XP) score and your achievement progress to Apple, and Apple associates them with your Game Center player identity so that they can appear on the leaderboards.
This is handled entirely by Apple. We operate no server and never receive, store, or see your Game Center identity or your score. Apple’s handling of that information is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not use any of it for advertising or tracking.
Game Center is optional. You can turn it off at any time in the app’s Settings tab, and the rest of the app works exactly as before — your levels, ranks and badges are calculated on your device and do not depend on Game Center.
Learn Nihongo saves your study progress to your own iCloud account so it follows you between your devices. This uses Apple’s iCloud key-value storage, tied to your Apple ID — it stays entirely inside your Apple account. We operate no server and cannot read, receive, or see any of it.
iCloud sync is controlled by your device’s iCloud Drive setting. Turning off iCloud Drive for this app stops the backup, and your progress then stays only on the device that made it — the same as if iCloud were never involved.
If you allow notifications, the app schedules a local daily study reminder directly on your device. No notification data is sent to us or any third party.
The app’s content is bundled inside the app and works fully offline. The optional network features are your device’s built-in text-to-speech (audio), which is handled by the operating system, and Apple’s Game Center (above), which is handled by Apple.
There are no advertising networks, analytics services, or third-party tracking SDKs in this app. The app uses Apple’s own Game Center service for the optional leaderboards and achievements described above; Apple’s handling of that information is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
The app is suitable for all ages, and we collect no data from anyone, including children. If Game Center is used, that information is handled by Apple under Apple’s own policies; Game Center can be limited or disabled with Screen Time and parental controls.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
